Master Splinter 1999 You might never guess it, but this is my most treasured shirt. In 1999, I was on the cutting edge of fashionable irony, and was in a desperate search for an authentic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles t-shirt. I scoured a million thrift store racks and found nothing. My girlfriend at the time knew of my struggle and made this shirt as a surprise gift. The front pictures Master Splinter and the quotation "If I keep a green bough in my heart, the singing bird will come." We're now married. I wore this shirt during the most terrifying moment of my life, for comfort. (I had a tonsillectomy at age 24 and was convinced the procedure would be my demise). I lived! post-teenage, non-mutant, non-martial-arts-trained turtle-imitator! Guess who's wearing a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles origins t-shirt? That would be my spouse! See all those baby turtles rolling around in radioactive ooze? That was a shirt.woot find. Much cooler than all that is the unfathomably huge fossilized turtle that my beloved is emulating. I am pretty sure I was previously unaware that turtles ever grew that big. At the vertebrate paleontology hall exhibit at the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History.
